To prepare a learner for the rigours
of modern road and traffic conditions it is generally
agreed that two hours is the ideal amount of lesson
time needed to practice driving without getting
overly tired. A number of such lessons taken closely
together would provide an optimum learning curve
for the majority of people, reducing the overall
time they might otherwise need to get to test
standard.
A driving course should therefore provide lessons that
are close enough together so as to be able to
absorb the instructor's advice but not so intense
as to overwhelm the pupil. It should allow
time enough to get practice with family or friends and for more professional instruction to be given
if a learner has an obvious difficulty with a
particular aspect of their driving (say, reversing,
for example) and all new drivers will greatly benefit
if they can get to know the "feel" of different vehicles whilst learning to enhance their overall skill and driving ability..
